Bobby Motaung (born 10 July 1970) is a South African professional football manager best known as the son of the former football player Kaizer Motaung.

He currently works as a manager at Kaizer Chiefs Football and runs a foundation, Bobby Motaung Foundation, through which he gives back to society. In July 2025, he hosted the Bobby Motaung Foundation golf day in Bryanston.

Early Life

Bobby Motaung was born on 10 July 1970 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, to a former football player, Kaizer Motaung, and Julegka Valeta Motaung.

He has two sisters, Jessica Motaung and Kemiso, and two brothers, Kaizer Motaung Jnr, the Sporting Director of Kaizer Chiefs, and the late Thabo, who passed away in 2012.

Bobby works at Kaizer Chiefs as a Football Manager, a club which made headlines for letting many players go. Players like Kearyn Baccus and Leonardo Castro have left the club.

His declaration of Kaizer Chiefs as a family business led to a love-hate relationship between him and Amakhosi fans in 2011.

The fans and supporters called for him to step down after accusing him of interfering in the signing of players by overruling coaches. In 2012, he shared that his monthly salary was R100,000.

He and his co-director, Herbert Theledi of Lefika Emerging Equity (Pty) Ltd, were dragged to court in Nelspruit. They were faced with allegations against Lefika Emerging Equity (Pty) Ltd regarding some business dealings by the company.

Bobby has also been arrested in connection with alleged tender irregularities in the building of the R1-billion Mbombela Stadium ahead of the 2010 World Cup, but was granted bail of R50,000.

SARS unleased liquidators to recover from Motaung and his business partners a sum of R90 million for failing to pay their company’s taxes in 2021.

He launched the Bobby Motaung Foundation in 2021 to provide financial support for community projects in need and to inspire youth through sports.

In 2022, he celebrated his mother’s 76th birthday by giving back to society in Sotweto through the Bobby Motaung Foundation.

In July 2025, he hosted the foundation’s golf day on his birthday at the Eye of Africa Golf Estate, which included on-course beauty treatments for the golfers.

Personal Life

Bobby Motaung and his wife, Eshler, have been married for over 20 years. He is the father of three children, Nthabiseng, Moagi, and Lehlohonolo.

He filed for a divorce from his wife in 2024 because he felt they had irreconcilable differences. He is a Christian and was baptized in the Methodist Church.

On Tuesday, 26 June 2012, his brother, Thabo Motaung, passed away at Garden City Hospital following a long illness. His paternal grandparents are Ceyland and Manana Motaung.
